My husband surprised me with a vacation trip to California for my birthday this year! It was a great trip that I wanted to share with you all! We were in the bay area for 5 days and each day was something totally different than the last. Although I wish I were still there now, it was a wonderful trip filled with love, laughter, and family.
Wednesday evening after work we drove to Dallas, which is about a 4-hour drive for us (hubby found insanely good airline tickets – check here). We got to Dallas with just enough time that I was able to hit up Nordstrom and Zara, ahhh yes! Where I picked up this skort and this handbag on sale now! Can’t wait to share in future posts with you guys.
Thursday morning we woke up at 4:30am and headed to the DFW airport where we caught our 6:30am flight to Oakland. Once arriving in Oakland at 8:30am Cali time (10:30am CST) my Aunt Gina picked us up from the airport and we went to the cutest waffle diner. From there we headed that afternoon to a couple wineries in Livermore, CA where my Aunt Gina lives. I learned they have over 60 wineries just in Livermore! We visited Concannon, which we really enjoyed. They have a beautiful winery full of different places to sit out and enjoy the views. We then headed over to McGrail where we sat out on the patio-watching people play corn hole and bacci ball with the view of rolling hills in the background. After such a long morning of traveling it was so nice to have the amazing view to relax to.
Friday morning we woke up at 6am and made the 3.5-hour drive to Yosemite National Park. My husband and I have never been and we want to make sure we had a day of outdoor fun. Funny story – my husband only packed one pair of shoes for the trip. He did this because when flying with Spirit you have to pay for a carry on so we somehow squished all of our belongings into a “personal item”. The shoes he brought were a pair of comfortable but decent good-looking shoes – we end up going on a 5 mile off the trail hike where his shoes become increasingly more and more dirty haha! We ended up walking/hiking 9 miles Friday – it was amazing! We saw Half Dome, Yosemite Falls (the tallest in North America) and Mirror Lake. Did I also mention we didn’t take water on our hike and it was 80 degrees that day?!
Saturday we headed to Napa! Our first stop was Domaine Carneros which is sparkling wines/champagne. We then visited Stag’s Leap and Mumm Napa which were fantastic.
Sunday we headed into San Francisco to visit my Uncle Michael and cousin Liz. They spent the day showing us around different parts of the city such as a quick hike around Land’s End and the Mission District.
Monday was our plane ride home so before our afternoon flight we headed back into SF where Austin and I visited the best bakery ever, Tartine, and I shopped at literally the coolest and most tech advanced store I’ve ever been in – Reformation. Ladies, Reformation was amazing. When you walk in you notice an open floor plan where racks of clothing have just one size of each style on the rack. You find what you like and tell the sales associate that is around that you would like to try this on in a small and this in a size 4 etc. You place the clothing back on the floor racks. When your fitting room is ready they let you know. Here comes the cool part. Once in the fitting room they have different lighting you can choose from for whatever fits your mood or skin tone. They have a cord to plug in your IPhone and listen to your favorite jams while trying stuff on! The clothing that you want to try on is all placed within this closet in your fitting room. If you need an additional size or would like to try on other things there is a touchscreen TV in your fitting room, probably 40 inches, that you scroll through the website and click “try on.” Close the closet doors in your fitting room and a sales associate places your new items in your closet. The TV then tells you to open your closet and that the new clothing items are available to try on. Can you believe that? I’ve never had such a cool shopping experience as that and on top of it all the sales associates were very friendly and the clothing is fashion forward while also being eco-friendly. I purchased this and this and can’t wait to show you in future blog posts! In the meantime check out their website here. I was my normal sizes.
Happy August! This past weekend seemed to be the weekend of ALL weddings! So many friends got married this weekend. We attended one on Friday and Saturday evening as well as Mema’s 80th birthday party on Sunday. We need a nap!
Off-the-shoulder tops (OTS) are so hot this spring and summer season. Until recently, I’d try on one after another and they didn’t seem to be flattering on my body. I have an average-sized body type and work out consistently but it seemed like all the OTS tops I tried on had my arms spilling out over the top of the blouse, eww! Finally I walked into the ever esteemed Forever 21 and guess what? I decided to give THIS pink OTS top a try and I loved it! I now can see what all the hype is about! I felt so feminine, like this could be perfect for a dinner date out with the hubby. For a date night I’d pair it with THIS black choker necklace, tie my hair up in a ballet bun and throw on some RED lips (shade – Cruella). Since I recently purchased this top and we had a weekend full of wedding festivities I thought before I made it out for a dinner date in this flirty OTS top I’d blog about it first. It was 100 degrees while taking these pictures so please excuse my lack of pants, heels, and lipstick. I thought in the heat of a Sunday afternoon I’d show you how I dressed it down for a hot summer day.
What I’m Wearing:
Thrift Store Shorts – made by me
Rebecca Minkoff Black Cross body
Black Velvet Choker Necklace

Happy Monday! I’m currently sitting lakeside this weekend. We haven’t been out once this whole summer so I’ve been dying to come. The lake is my absolute favorite place. I don’t know if it’s because I grew up in Oklahoma or what but there’s something about being out at the lake that makes me feel like I’m escaping life even if just for a day or two. Don’t we all need relaxation every once in awhile?
This has been such a fun post. I recently purchased THESE converse and was wondering how I was going to style them. I loved the idea from other bloggers with taking a pair of white sneakers and throwing it together with a dress or skirt. It seems very 80s or 90s to me! Speaking of 90s, MY choker necklace is back in style. If someone would’ve told me this at the age of 7 they’d be cool again I would’ve kept a few! I loved them growing up and I think it’s so cool that things like white sneakers and choker necklaces we wore as kids are back in style today as adults. This skirt was a recent find from the TopShop collection. I love the cut-out lace detailing. I chose to dress it down in a fun way. This is a perfect summer wear! What are your thoughts on my 90s vibe summer outfit?

Happy Monday! Ahh I’m so excited to be blogging again! I took off for the 4th of July and decided to take last Monday off as well. Sometimes you need to step away for a short period of time to refocus your energy. I’m glad I did that and I’m happy to be back full of excitement! Thank you for your continual support.
It has been over 100 degrees here in Oklahoma the past couple weeks so sweating immensely has become the norm for everyone around here. I thought I’d make that the topic of this week’s post; how to dress when it’s ridiculously hot outside. It doesn’t take an engineer to figure out that the less clothing you wear, the cooler you will be! But, lets not get too carried away as most of us still want to be presentable, that’s why my tank is so great for summer weather. I’m really big into any fabric other than cotton when I’m hot. I know people say cotton is “good” to wear in summer but I’m always miserable with a cotton shirt in 100 degree weather. I go for a lot of polyester material in the summer heat days. Polyester allows for better airflow and dries much more quickly than cotton, which helps when you’re dealing with sweat! As much as I love wearing my daisy duke cut offs every day in summer, (I work from home) sometimes occasions call us to be a little more presentable. Try going for this version of shorts to dress up a little. A cute summer dress like this or this is always fantastic as well.
Stay cool ladies!
