Work and Play

Business Casual Spring Outfit

Happy Monday everyone! I can’t express my excitement and gratitude enough from the overwhelming amount of positive support I received from you all last week. You guys are AMAZING! It blew me away. Taking risks can be hard, but your encouragement made it all worth it. So thank you, thank you for believing in my dream and for journeying with me!

Okay now that I’ve dried my tears and gotten the sentimental part out of the way, let’s talk about what you all are here for… the clothing! Today’s post is centered on work and play; outfits that are versatile enough to make it from work to various social outings afterwards! This outfit for most of you is work friendly, while also being a flirty fun outfit for a date afterwards or just a fun girls night out. When I walked into Dolce Vita a few weeks ago this top was the first thing I saw. Sometimes you see a piece of clothing and you know before you even put it on it has your name written all over it. This was one of those pieces for me. With its unique tulle overlay and crop-top tee underneath, it was something I hadn’t seen other people wearing. I’m always a sucker for unique pieces! These pants are the most comfortable pants I currently own. Upon first glance they weren’t my taste but after trying them on I fell in love. They are a modern loose fit, as many fashion trends currently are a looser or baggier look. The tricky thing with looser fits is to make sure they are complementary to your shape. I’ve worn them to church, meetings, and date nights. These pants pair well with tops ranging from casual to business friendly. For casual looks you can go with a crop-top or chiffon tank (they are high-ish waisted) or a light sweater for church and a button down for work! I currently prefer these to my denim right now.

So look through your closets ladies, do you have a great pair of slacks you love? Maybe some loose trousers? Something with complementary cuts to accentuate your shape but also comfortable enough to go from work to play!

See you all next Monday! Check out my Instagram (@e_whistle) in the meantime for day-to-day looks.

It’s finally here! After months of planning and thought, Call It Chic has launched! I’m so excited to bring you my creative outlet. This style blog is based on giving you ideas about your own clothing, and how to style your wardrobe in ways you may have never thought before. This won’t be a blog telling you that in order to be fashionable or stylish you need to go out and buy a whole new outfit… that’s crazy! It’s about showing you things in my closet that will help you to get more creative and think of outfits you can put together with the things you already own!

Today’s post is an outfit that I purchased last summer; I can’t tell you how many compliments I received upon wearing it. The top and skirt were purchased from my favorite boutique in Tulsa, Dolce Vita. The top is velvet; yes you read correctly, a velvet long-sleeved crop-top with angled detailed along the bottom. This is a great piece for not only those brisk spring days but also the fall months. I am all about versatility! This skirt- I have more women lined up to take this skirt off my hands than probably any other piece of clothing in my closet. The translucent, yet colorful floral detailing is beautiful; great for Spring and Summer days! If the weather becomes too hot, you can also trade the velvet shirt for a lighter tank top.

So start looking through your closets ladies! Do you have great skirts you haven’t worn yet this year? Bring ‘em out! Depending on the fluctuating spring weather, pair them with either long or short sleeved, or a tank. If your skirt doesn’t have much detail, go for a pattern top or statement necklace to complete your spring skirt looks! Questions? Comment below!

For this shoot, we had the beautiful and talented Lauryn Tumpkin help us out. She was so sweet and gave up part of her afternoon to show Austin (my husband and primary photographer) how to get the best shots when it comes to fashion photography. Follow her on Instagram @laurtump. Thank you Lauryn, you are amazing!

Blog posts will be every Monday, meanwhile you can follow me on Instagram, @e_whistle to see more of my day-to-day style!
