Vacationing in California 2017

Half Dome

My husband surprised me with a vacation trip to California for my birthday this year! It was a great trip that I wanted to share with you all! We were in the bay area for 5 days and each day was something totally different than the last. Although I wish I were still there now, it was a wonderful trip filled with love, laughter, and family.

Wednesday evening after work we drove to Dallas, which is about a 4-hour drive for us (hubby found insanely good airline tickets – check here). We got to Dallas with just enough time that I was able to hit up Nordstrom and Zara, ahhh yes! Where I picked up this skort and this handbag on sale now! Can’t wait to share in future posts with you guys.

Thursday morning we woke up at 4:30am and headed to the DFW airport where we caught our 6:30am flight to Oakland. Once arriving in Oakland at 8:30am Cali time (10:30am CST) my Aunt Gina picked us up from the airport and we went to the cutest waffle diner. From there we headed that afternoon to a couple wineries in Livermore, CA where my Aunt Gina lives. I learned they have over 60 wineries just in Livermore! We visited Concannon, which we really enjoyed. They have a beautiful winery full of different places to sit out and enjoy the views. We then headed over to McGrail where we sat out on the patio-watching people play corn hole and bacci ball with the view of rolling hills in the background. After such a long morning of traveling it was so nice to have the amazing view to relax to.

Friday morning we woke up at 6am and made the 3.5-hour drive to Yosemite National Park. My husband and I have never been and we want to make sure we had a day of outdoor fun. Funny story – my husband only packed one pair of shoes for the trip. He did this because when flying with Spirit you have to pay for a carry on so we somehow squished all of our belongings into a “personal item”. The shoes he brought were a pair of comfortable but decent good-looking shoes – we end up going on a 5 mile off the trail hike where his shoes become increasingly more and more dirty haha! We ended up walking/hiking 9 miles Friday – it was amazing! We saw Half Dome, Yosemite Falls (the tallest in North America) and Mirror Lake. Did I also mention we didn’t take water on our hike and it was 80 degrees that day?!

Saturday we headed to Napa! Our first stop was Domaine Carneros which is sparkling wines/champagne. We then visited Stag’s Leap and Mumm Napa which were fantastic.

Sunday we headed into San Francisco to visit my Uncle Michael and cousin Liz. They spent the day showing us around different parts of the city such as a quick hike around Land’s End and the Mission District.

Monday was our plane ride home so before our afternoon flight we headed back into SF where Austin and I visited the best bakery ever, Tartine, and I shopped at literally the coolest and most tech advanced store I’ve ever been in – Reformation. Ladies, Reformation was amazing. When you walk in you notice an open floor plan where racks of clothing have just one size of each style on the rack. You find what you like and tell the sales associate that is around that you would like to try this on in a small and this in a size 4 etc. You place the clothing back on the floor racks. When your fitting room is ready they let you know. Here comes the cool part. Once in the fitting room they have different lighting you can choose from for whatever fits your mood or skin tone. They have a cord to plug in your IPhone and listen to your favorite jams while trying stuff on! The clothing that you want to try on is all placed within this closet in your fitting room. If you need an additional size or would like to try on other things there is a touchscreen TV in your fitting room, probably 40 inches, that you scroll through the website and click “try on.” Close the closet doors in your fitting room and a sales associate places your new items in your closet. The TV then tells you to open your closet and that the new clothing items are available to try on. Can you believe that? I’ve never had such a cool shopping experience as that and on top of it all the sales associates were very friendly and the clothing is fashion forward while also being eco-friendly. I purchased this and this and can’t wait to show you in future blog posts! In the meantime check out their website here. I was my normal sizes.

Boho Styled Floral Bridal Photo Shoot

A few weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to model for a boho inspired floral bridal photo shoot. It was such a fun day and brought me back to my (very fast) days as a soon-to-be bride! Many of you don’t know the story of how my husband and I got together so I’ll sum it up! Austin and I met our freshman year of high school. We dated for 3 weeks in 9th grade but I promptly broke up with him when he asked me to kiss him. I’d never kissed anyone before so I was too scared and broke up with him…well I had my friend break up with him for me, SO terrible I know but I was young! Anyway we remained friends through high school and each year had one or two classes together where we were class buddies. After High School, Austin went off to ORU for school and I went to OSU. We didn’t really keep it touch much through college other than a few texts or run-ins here or there. I never thought anything about it. After finishing my degree in three years (one year less than Austin, and I still let him know I’m smarter than him 😉 I moved to Tulsa for a management position at Dillard’s while Austin was entering into his senior year at ORU. One day, our moms saw each other at the gym when my mom mentioned I had just moved to Tulsa. Later that week, Austin’s mom mentioned to Austin that I was in town and he should ask me to coffee. Being a respectful son, and wanting to honor his mother, he asked me out to coffee. Sometimes moms just know things I guess 😉

We met up a few days later at a local coffee shop (Shades of Brown if you’re familiar with Tulsa). I didn’t know whether this was a date or a friend thing, since I hadn’t seen Austin as anything other than friends in such a long time. He asked to pick me up but the feminist-independent woman in me suggested I’d just meet him there! I get to the coffee shop and walk right past him not noticing him, he says my name and bam! We locked eyes and after 4 hours of amazing conversation we left saying we’d do it again. I went home to my apartment that night where I had a couple friends staying over and they asked if it was a date or not to which I replied “I don’t know but I’m in love with him.” We continued hanging out as friends his senior year and made it official that spring. We were engaged that September and married in November. I married my best friend.

But back to this great photo shoot I was able to be a part of! If you’re getting married soon check out www.JessicaLynnTucker.com and her Instagram, as she is amazingly talented! She was such a joy to work with!

Poppy’s Garden provided this beautiful bouquet for the shoot. She also did the flowers for my wedding as well! She has such a creative eye and is on top of the floral trends. Check her out at www.poppys-garden.com and her Instagram!

Chic Valentine’s Day Outfit

With Valentine’s Day coming up I thought I’d share a chic date night look I love to wear. This is a great outfit for going out anytime this winter season for date night, dinner, drinks, etc. I especially love the lace floral detailing mixed with the bell sleeve. I love incorporating bell sleeves into my wardrobe as they can be such a stylish piece. When temperatures drop I like to pair this outfit with my black leather jacket (on sale). Check out how else I style the jacket here! This black leather jacket has become a staple piece of my fall and winter wardrobes.

This weekend we’re heading to Dallas to celebrate my hubby’s birthday along with Valentine’s Day! So you know what that means, Nordstrom shopping oh yea! I can’t wait to see what kind of things I find. I’m like a kid in a candy store there. I’m looking for some great pieces to add to my spring wardrobe. Let’s be honest, my spring wardrobe is the largest. Floral and pastels are my thing, what can I say!

We’re looking for some great restaurants and brunch spots to hit up, so comment below if you know of any! We’ve also heard that the Bishop Arts District in Dallas is a must see so we’ll definitely be checking out that area of town.

Red Velvet Holiday Chic

Merry Christmas Eve! I’m double blogging about velvet. Velvet has been a major trend in 2016. I have to admit I’ve been a fan for a few years. I purchased this red velvet dress from Dillard’s a couple of years ago. I remember first wearing it and receiving so many compliments. I felt I was dressed as a Christmas present all wrapped up! I wore this last Christmas Eve and I’ll be wearing it tomorrow for Christmas day! Sorry family for the duplicate family Christmas photos! This has been such a great holiday outfit for me. I like pairing this dress with lace tights each year to give even more detail to my look! Scroll down to see yesterday’s blog post where I talked about the use of different prints and trends in your outfit.

Well I’m off to help my mom in the kitchen this morning! I’ll be making cake balls for our Christmas Eve party with the hubby’s family tonight. What Christmas plans are you forward to? What holiday outfits are you looking forward to wearing this season? I hope all of you have a wonderful Merry Christmas.

Velvet + Leather

I’m finally able to post again! The back office of my blog had been down for the last couple weeks so thankfully it’s back up in time just for the holidays (thank you to my tech savvy hubby). I’ll be sharing my holiday looks today and also tomorrow which is Christmas Eve!

Happy Christmas Eve Eve! Wow the temps have definitely dropped since I last posted. I wore this outfit in the 30’s. I also wore this on Thanksgiving Day during all of our family festivities. What I love about this particular outfit is the many different textures. I’m wearing velvet on top; leather, lace and suede on the bottom. Talk about a fashion crisis! Despite such an array of textures, I’ve never felt anything but confident in this outfit. *Take notes here – mixing textures is a good thing, a very good thing. It’s a risk that shows your confidence and adds a personal touch to your style.

Examples to try in your own closet:

Leather skirt with cotton or cashmere sweater; or your favorite band’s t-shirt

Velvet skirt with Metallic cotton top

Denim with a velvet top and metallic jacket

Denim with a chiffon shirt (this is a current trend)

Lace top and velvet bottoms or stay safe with denim on bottom

Textures that are huge this winter season:

Velvet

Metallic

Black Sheer

Has anyone seen the new Fashion Color of the Year for 2017? Well that’s going to be interesting. I look sick in this color so stay tuned to see how I try to incorporate it this next year into my personal wardrobe!

P.S. Sorry about the wrinkled skirt, I wore this all day before taking the pictures and didn’t realize it was so wrinkled until I saw these pictures!

What I’m Wearing:

My Skirt is sold out but similar versions I love are here and here!

My Shoes sold out but great versions that just went ON SALE here and use code GIFT for an extra 20% off!

Fall Florals

Happy Friday! For many of you your workweek is ending and you’re looking forward to a relaxing weekend. I however, have a huge work event this weekend that I’m so excited for, but know I’ll be absolutely exhausted by the time the weekend has come to an end.

Anyway, let’s talk about fashion! I purchased this Betsey Johnson dress about two years ago, after wearing it in a fashion show. At the time, it was around $200 full—price, which was way out of my budget. I waited until it was more than 50% off before purchasing. I’m so glad I did. I’ve probably worn this dress 20-25 times. I love it.

At that time bell sleeves were a risky, yet confident-in-your-style kind of decision to make. I enjoy taking risks with my style, in hopes of showing other women pieces they can add to their wardrobe. Now bell-sleeves are all the rage! This Spring and Summer was huge for the style. Every fashion blogger was wearing them and they were in every store I walked into. Isn’t it funny how trends from the 60’s and 70’s are such a hit this year? Although my dress is no longer available, I have linked the cream version here and I’ve added similar styles below.

Happy Fall! Oklahoma weather is so bizarre. Within a three day period the weather will go from 90 degrees to 60 degrees and rainy. Fall seems to be a hit and miss situation so far around here. I’ve been on a six-week hiatus but I’m back! So nearing towards the end of October I am happy to be sharing my fall inspirations with you!

I purchased this leather jacket from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, which seems to be ages ago, and this is the first time I’ve been able to break it in. It is a staple piece among bloggers this fall and winter at a great price! This jacket is thick so I know I’ll be wearing it into the winter months. Are leather jackets a part of your fall wardrobe? How do you like to style yours? In this post I styled mine with a super soft t-shirt style dress (pick up at Dolce Vita in Tulsa). I definitely will be styling this jacket in many more ways to come so stay tuned!

Colorado Chic

Happy Friday! I’m currently writing from beautiful Colorado Springs! I’ve got to say this is much prettier than Oklahoma. The mountains are gorgeous here, although nothing beats the Oklahoma sunsets. This week, my husband and I have been staying with his sister Bonnie (pictured above) and her husband. Bonnie and I work together for her father’s company. They’ve been so kind by opening up their home to us and showing us all the great local coffee shops, restaurants, nature sites, and of course boutiques. We took these pictures at the famous Broadmoor Hotel in The Springs. I’ve never been to a hotel this gorgeous in my life. If you’re ever in the area you’ll definitely want to check it out and if your pocket book is bursting at the seams, try staying a weekend there. It’s crazy beautiful and romantic.

Like I said, this past weekend Bonnie showed me around a few boutiques here and there. One place in particular she took me to was a stylish new shop called erbn Boutique. It’s where Bonnie picked up the duster she’s wearing in the photos above. Doesn’t she look gorgeous?! They have the cutest pieces and get new merchandise in DAILY!

In other news we’re loving Colorado but we’ve had a few set-backs this week. My husband and I planned on going backpacking for a few days around Telluride and 1 hour into the 5 hour drive our Subaru overheated. Luckily after it cooled down we were able to drive it slowing over to a car shop where they told us we blew a head gasket and it’d be $2300 and a few days to fix. Through the tedious process of determining what to do and how we would get home, my husband and I both came down with terrible colds that day. We’re just so thankful to have family to lean on during this tough week. I guess we’ll just need to have a re-do vacation!

Fall Faves

Happy Friday! With fall a month away and temps in Tulsa camling down this past week from above 100 degrees to 90 degrees (lol) I’m beginning to think about what pieces I’ll be purchasing for my fall wardrobe this year. Booties are always a staple piece for fall and winter months so there’s always a TON to choose from. I can’t wait to get these! I purchased THIS leather jacket a few weeks ago and I can’t wait for the temps to cool down so I can start wearing it. Off – the – shoulder tops will still be huge in the earlier months of fall. Try pairing your OTS top with a small scarf this fall. What are some of your fall faves? Comment below!

Summer with a Hint of Fall

Yay it’s Friday! I’m going to be trying a couple new things out with the blog and one of those will be posting on Fridays. I’d really like to see if I’m able to reach more of you by posting towards the end of the week as opposed to the beginning. I know Mondays can be miserable and hectic for some people. You’ve been at work 45 seconds and your boss is already calling you with new assignments to do along with the multiple work emails you need to read (that used to be my life too). So I’m going to try posting on Fridays for a few weeks to see if you all like that more!

Today’s look is a fun breezy flirty bell-sleeve dress. As one of my older posts shows, bell-sleeves are definitely “in” this year. I snagged this dress during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and can’t wait to wear it over the next few months. I’m a sucker for loose and light dresses, especially when the temps are above 80 degrees. This dress comes in so many different colors so my hardest decision was which color to choose! I went with Plum because I felt like it was a great color to lead into fall. As fall approaches in the next month I’ll be giving you some ideas ahead of time so you can begin planning your fall wardrobe. I hope to inspire you, whether you’re shopping online or in the mall.

Also, I did a little something different this week. You’ll notice as you scroll through the pictures above I have a tote in some with no belt and then I’m styling the bell-sleeve dress with a belt. I know I’ll be wearing it a few different ways this fall so I thought I’d show you another option. Which look is your favorite?

*Note – I’m wearing a small but other customers of this dress have said it’s short and had to go ONE SIZE UP. So if you have longer legs or are taller than 5’5, keep that in mind!

I’m also looking for some new post ideas. Is there something you’d like to see more or less of? Something different? Comment below or send an email to emma@callitchic.com with your questions and thoughts!

Pink Shoulder

Happy August! This past weekend seemed to be the weekend of ALL weddings! So many friends got married this weekend. We attended one on Friday and Saturday evening as well as Mema’s 80th birthday party on Sunday. We need a nap!

Off-the-shoulder tops (OTS) are so hot this spring and summer season. Until recently, I’d try on one after another and they didn’t seem to be flattering on my body. I have an average-sized body type and work out consistently but it seemed like all the OTS tops I tried on had my arms spilling out over the top of the blouse, eww! Finally I walked into the ever esteemed Forever 21 and guess what? I decided to give THIS pink OTS top a try and I loved it! I now can see what all the hype is about! I felt so feminine, like this could be perfect for a dinner date out with the hubby. For a date night I’d pair it with THIS black choker necklace, tie my hair up in a ballet bun and throw on some RED lips (shade – Cruella). Since I recently purchased this top and we had a weekend full of wedding festivities I thought before I made it out for a dinner date in this flirty OTS top I’d blog about it first. It was 100 degrees while taking these pictures so please excuse my lack of pants, heels, and lipstick. I thought in the heat of a Sunday afternoon I’d show you how I dressed it down for a hot summer day.

Orange Crush

Happy Monday! I’m currently sitting lakeside this weekend. We haven’t been out once this whole summer so I’ve been dying to come. The lake is my absolute favorite place. I don’t know if it’s because I grew up in Oklahoma or what but there’s something about being out at the lake that makes me feel like I’m escaping life even if just for a day or two. Don’t we all need relaxation every once in awhile?

This has been such a fun post. I recently purchased THESE converse and was wondering how I was going to style them. I loved the idea from other bloggers with taking a pair of white sneakers and throwing it together with a dress or skirt. It seems very 80s or 90s to me! Speaking of 90s, MY choker necklace is back in style. If someone would’ve told me this at the age of 7 they’d be cool again I would’ve kept a few! I loved them growing up and I think it’s so cool that things like white sneakers and choker necklaces we wore as kids are back in style today as adults. This skirt was a recent find from the TopShop collection. I love the cut-out lace detailing. I chose to dress it down in a fun way. This is a perfect summer wear! What are your thoughts on my 90s vibe summer outfit?

White Hot

Happy Monday! Ahh I’m so excited to be blogging again! I took off for the 4th of July and decided to take last Monday off as well. Sometimes you need to step away for a short period of time to refocus your energy. I’m glad I did that and I’m happy to be back full of excitement! Thank you for your continual support.

It has been over 100 degrees here in Oklahoma the past couple weeks so sweating immensely has become the norm for everyone around here. I thought I’d make that the topic of this week’s post; how to dress when it’s ridiculously hot outside. It doesn’t take an engineer to figure out that the less clothing you wear, the cooler you will be! But, lets not get too carried away as most of us still want to be presentable, that’s why my tank is so great for summer weather. I’m really big into any fabric other than cotton when I’m hot. I know people say cotton is “good” to wear in summer but I’m always miserable with a cotton shirt in 100 degree weather. I go for a lot of polyester material in the summer heat days. Polyester allows for better airflow and dries much more quickly than cotton, which helps when you’re dealing with sweat! As much as I love wearing my daisy duke cut offs every day in summer, (I work from home) sometimes occasions call us to be a little more presentable. Try going for this version of shorts to dress up a little. A cute summer dress like this or this is always fantastic as well.

Stay cool ladies!

I picked THIS dress up from the TopShop Collection at Nordstrom. The nude (I say pinkish) cold shoulder midi dress is fun to dress up or down. For attending a wedding, dress it up like I did or for a fun brunch date try mixing it with a pair of Converse shoes and a choker necklace.

Fashion Colors of The Year

Happy Monday… I feel like I should stop saying that. Let’s be honest, most Mondays, at least Monday mornings are not all that happy. You’re dreaming of the past weekend and already plotting next weekend’s adventures. That’s why I bring you this every Monday. I hope to inspire your Monday Blues with a touch of happiness, creativity, or inspiration for the week to come. I post on Mondays because we all need an escape sometimes. With that being said, happy Monday!

For those of you who keep up with the world of style and fashion you know that the colors of 2016 include Rose Quartz and Serenity. A few of you may have scoffed at the idea of this, but the vision behind these colorings were to find colors that make us feel comfortable; who doesn’t love that? I think the offset of pinks and blues is something to admire and maybe adopt into your own wardrobe this summer. I did and I’m glad, because and I’ve fallen in love with this coloring combo. Check out examples here of how to wear your Colors of The Year best. Oh and I wanted to let you guys know that I picked my cute tank up from Urban Outfitters for $7! So if you’re in the Tulsa area, stop by and try this super comfy tank on. I’ve linked a few here, here and here.

Happy Monday! Whoa! We had a crazy busy (good busy) week. Sunday was a full day of brunch, friends, and birthday parties. I purchased these BCBG joggers last summer and loved them. They are SO comfy; I’d wear them to work (retail management at the time) for long workdays if I knew I’d be doing physical movement but still wanted to maintain a trendy look. Joggers are great to dress down for festivals and casual day-dates. Other times, you can dress them up like I did for work or for night dates! I like to wear mine for evenings out with the hubby. I found these (on sale 40% off) and these that are this year’s version that are very similar. I’ve also linked others I found that are super cute below. Summer Kimono Wrap Style Floral Dress

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I hope you all are enjoying your long weekend. I’m writing this while packing for a quick getaway to the family lake house. I picked this wrap kimono dress up from Dolce Vita a few weeks ago. The beautiful colors in this wrap dress are PERFECT for summer. This dress would be a hit for weekends at the beach or lake, a summer BBQ, or a brunch date! I’ve never worn a kimono dress before but love the way it fits. It’s ties around at the waist and effortlessly flows throughout the shoulders and arms as well from the waist down. For the Tulsa area ladies, you can pick this dress at Dolce Vita (just reordered!) and for the not-so-close girls, I’ve found some beautiful similar pieces here, here, and here that would be gorgeous choices! I never wait this late to write a post! It’s 10pm on a Sunday night and I just got home from Hop Jam, where we got to see some friends play, along with the folk/hippie band, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero’s (so fun). My feet are swollen and I’m covered in a layer of sweat, SO gross! This weekend was full of festival fun.

I’ve been waiting a few weeks to share THIS DRESS (similar here) from our local Dolce Vita with you guys! Ahh, another one of those pieces I fell in love with so so quickly once stumbling upon! This floral print skater dress makes any body type look great; it hugs and flows in all the right places. This was my first skater-style dress purchase and I have to say I’m hooked. The closeness of the waist and the flowing bottom (my favorite) make me feel all the more girly, while the back makes the dress so unique for skater-style dresses. If you’re in the Tulsa area, stop by Dolce Vita and give this beauty a try-on! I’ve linked a couple very similar ones I love here and here.

Flashy Pink Dress with Lace Up Shoes

I can’t believe it’s already Monday again. I’ve had so much fun these past few weekends. Last week, I told you guys that Mother’s Day was my birthday. The day before, my parents came up to Tulsa and took us out to The Rusty Crane for lunch. A place I had wanted to try for a while; the patio is perfect and the food is delicious! My husband, Austin was in a wedding Sunday in OKC, and it just worked out that my BFF Shelby lives in OKC as well. She was studying for pharmacy school finals and graciously gave up some time for me! (She passed btw, cause she’s a genius.) We celebrated by grabbing brunch at Fassler Hall (so good) and did some shopping afterwards (no luck) afterwards we headed off to the wedding!

This Sam Edelman dress was a purchase from last year but…. I found it SO cheap for you guys! This is a great dress I love throwing on for those warm spring and summer days. You can dress it up or down! Throw on a pair of converse and you’re ready for a Saturday brunch with friends, or dress it up with THESE super comfortable heels like I did and you’re looking chic so easily! I love having clothing that  accessorizes for me. I’m the type of girl that goes for the printed pattern dress, to avoid having to find the perfect jewelry combo. This dress just makes everything so easy. And best of all, it has POCKETS! I’m a sucker for dresses or skirts with pockets. Lastly, the TOP trending sunglasses this season; oh Dior how I love you so, yet can’t afford you… so I picked up similar dupes to these at Dolce Vita.

See you next Monday loves!

Floral Sleeved

Bell-Sleeve Floral Shirt

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day. Yesterday was also my 23rd birthday so we went out to brunch and attended a wedding in OKC. More details to come.

This week’s post features the currently popular bell sleeve and of course my fav type of print, floral. I found this top on sale at Dillard’s (found it WAY on sale for you) last week and loved it! If you’re a woman who knows fashion you know bell sleeves are so in right now. They are huge (literally) this season. The detailing of the bell sleeve is great because it features enough up top to enable you to keep the bottom of your outfit simple – it does the work for you! For a more conservative look, go for a solid-colored bell-sleeved top and fun-layered or statement necklaces. For fun upcoming events try those patterned bell-sleeved tops you’ve been eyeing! Just remember that with bell sleeves the details are up top, so keep your bottoms simple.

Have a great week ladies!

Spring Floral Tea Skirt

I can’t believe it’s already been a month since I started the blog! Whoa. Time flies when you’re having fun!

This week’s post features my favorite skirt of all time. I purchased this piece from Dolce Vita a few weeks ago. Ladies, 70% of my clothing comes from this place. I’m OBSESSED. I receive so many compliments on every piece I purchase there! For those of you that personally know me, you know the likelihood of finding me in a skirt style like this is pretty high. I can’t stay away from these tea-length skirts (I’m up to about 10 now!) Skirts this length work for parties, work, church, along with most other outings. I just can’t resist. The floral coloring on this skirt yells spring so I knew it’d be perfect for this time of year.

I’d also like to point out with this week’s blog post, the use of colors in your style. For a while I believed that my outfits needed to match color to a T… False. For instance, if I wore a skirt, my top, shoes, and accessories would need to match one of the same colors. But now I have come to learn that having style doesn’t mean your entire outfit matches, it simply means expressing yourself through your clothing with confidence and an array of colors. For example, if you are wearing a pair of green pants go for a blue or pink top. And when is a better time to do that than in Spring? See you next Monday!

Lilac Spring Dress

I can’t believe it’s already Monday again! This past week flew by! I started my new career last week and moved from our apartment into the cutest house this weekend! Whew I’ve been busy, but the good kind of busy!

This was my Easter look this year! Some of you looking at this post have already seen it in real life (hi family!). I’ve had this BCBG dress for a few years and it’s great for all types of different occasions such as: college formals, church wear, bridal showers, weddings, or any other spring event you have coming up. The chiffon texture is lightweight and great for heightening temperatures. For todays look I paired the dress with THIS BCBG JACKET that I love! It’s lightweight fabric makes this a great piece to carry over from cold spring mornings up to warmer temperatures. The white is a chic and sharp statement piece, pairing well with the bright lilac dress; a wonderful spring color.

I know it can be hard to transition from the dark colors of winter, but the green trees and blooming flowers make it a little easier. Time to bring out those bright spring color pieces!

Coachella Chic Two-Piece Outfit

Happy Monday! This week’s post is all about Coachella Music Festival. My best friend Shelby and I have always had the dream of one day making it out for a Coachella Weekend. Although that hasn’t happened yet, I still have hope! While we know Coachella is all about the music, the fashion is an equally important part of the event. What makes this festival interesting, is that Coachella sets the trend for the upcoming spring and summer season for all things bohemian. So in honor of the festival, I am bring you one of the most Boho-Chic looks I adore. With its white lace overlay, this matching set is gorgeous for romantic, hippy, or bohemian looks. And of course it is another Dolce Vita piece, my fave!

Until a few years ago I scoffed at matching outfit sets. The thought of wearing the same material or pattern head to toe, NO WAY! I had always thought it was best to incorporate diversity in my outfits. As with most fashion trends, matching pieces came back in so I gave them a shot. Matching pieces can be beautifully paired if styled correctly. Sometimes sets will need a third piece of clothing or a skin break in between pattern or color. What really made me feel comfortable about buying my first matching outfit, (featured above) was the crop top that seemed to give an elegant break in pattern. To add a little flare, try pairing fun flashy jewelry in order to draw the eye to something other than the ongoing pattern. At the end of the day you want to feel beautiful and confident in what you’re wearing. Matching sets can be tricky, but the styling trick I found with them is to find a set that is flattering to your body, with a color that works with your skin tone. Throw on some fun jewelry to break it up along with a pair of heels that contain a different color or pattern!

Who are your favorite artists featured at Coachella this year? A few of mine are Ellie Goulding, James Bay, The 1975, and SIA.

Work and Play

Business Casual Spring Outfit

Happy Monday everyone! I can’t express my excitement and gratitude enough from the overwhelming amount of positive support I received from you all last week. You guys are AMAZING! It blew me away. Taking risks can be hard, but your encouragement made it all worth it. So thank you, thank you for believing in my dream and for journeying with me!

Okay now that I’ve dried my tears and gotten the sentimental part out of the way, let’s talk about what you all are here for… the clothing! Today’s post is centered on work and play; outfits that are versatile enough to make it from work to various social outings afterwards! This outfit for most of you is work friendly, while also being a flirty fun outfit for a date afterwards or just a fun girls night out. When I walked into Dolce Vita a few weeks ago this top was the first thing I saw. Sometimes you see a piece of clothing and you know before you even put it on it has your name written all over it. This was one of those pieces for me. With its unique tulle overlay and crop-top tee underneath, it was something I hadn’t seen other people wearing. I’m always a sucker for unique pieces! These pants are the most comfortable pants I currently own. Upon first glance they weren’t my taste but after trying them on I fell in love. They are a modern loose fit, as many fashion trends currently are a looser or baggier look. The tricky thing with looser fits is to make sure they are complementary to your shape. I’ve worn them to church, meetings, and date nights. These pants pair well with tops ranging from casual to business friendly. For casual looks you can go with a crop-top or chiffon tank (they are high-ish waisted) or a light sweater for church and a button down for work! I currently prefer these to my denim right now.

So look through your closets ladies, do you have a great pair of slacks you love? Maybe some loose trousers? Something with complementary cuts to accentuate your shape but also comfortable enough to go from work to play!

See you all next Monday! Check out my Instagram (@e_whistle) in the meantime for day-to-day looks.
